(KAIR)--Nine injuries are now confirmed, but names are not yet made public, as the Kansas State Fire Marshals Office completes the investigation into Thursday's explosion at GBW Rail Services, west of Atchison.
That word comes in a statement released by the Atchison County Sheriff's Department Friday afternoon.
The statement clarifies that investigators found no evidence of any criminal activity, and clarifies that a tanker car did not explode, despite initial reports saying it did.
However, they will not rule out that the contents of the tanker car may have contributed to the explosion.
The two most seriously injured employees were taken to the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City. A spokesman Friday said their conditions have been upgraded to fair.
There were a total of 19 employees inside the facility at the time of the blast.
The explosion happened in an area where rail car surfaces are prepared for painting.
