OMAHA, Neb. (AP) - The president and chief executive officer of the Omaha Public Power District has announced his intention to retire next year.
The district said in a news release Tuesday that Gary Gates has been working with the board of directors on a smooth transition. District spokesman Mike Jones says the exact date of Gates' retirement depends on the board's selection of his successor and the date that person can take over.
Gates joined the district in September 1972 as a test engineer, rose through the ranks and was named to his two posts in January 2004.
OPPD serves more than 356,000 customers in 13 counties in southeast Nebraska.
