(KAIR)--Atchison's Maur Hill-Mount Academy has been named the sixth best private high school in the state of Kansas by national school review website niche.com.
Maur Hill-Mount President Phil Baniewicz says the ranking is something they can be proud of at the school and it is an honor to be recognized for their hard work.
Baniewicz feels the honor stems from several different factors, including a strong emphasis on the ideals the school was founded on. He says “Those Benedictine monks and sisters that started the school 150 years ago...they set the tone and have created a legacy that we are just trying to carry on now. So Benedictine spirituality and St. Benedict's approach to life through the rule, is just something that is just part of things here, and I think that's part of what makes it unique”.
Baniewicz adds that the international atmosphere at the academy also likely played a part in the ranking. He says that “Having that boarding element of kids from different countries coming together...there are not very many places in the Midwest that people encounter about 12-15 different cultures in one year, and that is a unique thing that our kids get to experience”.
The website ranked 3,880 high schools based on key student statistics and more than 120,000 opinions from 16,00 students and parents.
Leavenworth's Immaculata high school placed 17th on the list.
