(KNZA)--A groundbreaking ceremony Sunday in Saint Joseph, with the start of construction for FEMA certified shelters at Camp Geiger the reason behind the event.
KQ2-TV reports the groundbreaking marked the beginning of the construction of 13 shelters, with a matching grant from FEMA leaving the local Boy Scout council responsible for 25% of the projected $1.7 million pricetag.
Construction is expected to wrap-up during the summer of 2016.
The effort to see the shelter's construction followed a 2008 tragedy in Iowa when a tornado killed three boy scouts who were at a campsite.
