(KLZA)-- The Nemaha Natural Resources Board of Directors has approved a bid for clearing 25 acres of trees from the site of the future Duck Creek dam and recreation area near Peru.
Five bids were received. The Board awarded the bid to the low bidder, Craig Dennis Construction of Nehawka. The cost will be $2,400 per acre. Work will be completed as soon as possible to avoid conflicts with the Migratory Bird Act limiting tree removal after March 31.
JEO Consulting Group was selected by the Board to complete assessments of 13 watershed dams. The work is to be completed by the fall of 2016.
The Board made no changes to chemigation fees and rules. The Programs and Projects committee did report to the full board that they are considering an increase in fees for both renewals and permits. Recent state legislation allows for changes to the fees that have not been changed since 1987. A public hearing is required prior to any change being made final.
Well permits were approved for Steve Kean and Paul Burgett in Richardson County, and for Raymond Werner and Randy Burgett in Pawnee County.
An agreement with Nemaha County that would allow the NRD to store water on the road right-of-way once the Duck Creek Watershed structure is constructed was approved. The agreement now goes to Nemaha County Commissioners for their consideration. Discussion was also held on how to fund road upgrades, including a box culvert and bridge construction.
