(KNZA)--Special recognition for two Hiawatha residents, known for their dedication for local volunteership.
Mayor Crosby Gernon presented certificates of appreciation to Stacy Babb and Beth Mikita during this week’s City Commission meeting for their hard work in helping organize this year’s 100th annual Halloween Frolic.
Mikita served as chairwoman of this year’s Halloween Frolic committee and Babb as co-chair. Mikita and Babb said it was an honor to be part of a special tradition, and said it was really a group effort of the entire community.
The frolic was first held in 1914 when Mrs. John Krebs suggested a parade for youngsters in an attempt to keep them out of mischief. It’s considered the oldest, continuously-running Halloween parade in the nation.
This year’s parade drew a large crowd to the city.
