(KNZA)--The Brown County Commission has gone on record, opposing proposed revisions to water regulations by the EPA and Army Corps of Engineers.
The Commission this week signed a letter that will be sent to the state’s two U.S. Senators , Pat Roberts and Jerry Moran, opposing the so-called “ Waters of the U.S.” rule.
The proposed rule, which was announced in March, would more clearly define the scope of waters protected under the federal Clean Water Act.
The agencies say its proposed clarification will safeguard water quality without protecting any new types of waterways.
But opponents of the changes worry that they could let the EPA regulate almost anything connected to downstream waters—including ditches, farm ponds, and even low-lying areas of a farm that are generally dry but might puddle when it rains.
