(KAIR)--An assault investigation in Atchison County has led to the recovery of two vehicles that had been reported stolen out of Topeka.
According to Atchison County Sheriff Jack Laurie, his department was investigating a case involving a victim being struck by a machete on a property located at 4771 K-116 Highway on October 23rd.
During that investigation, officials discovered fresh tire tracks leading to a Chevrolet pickup truck, with no license plates. Deputies checked the vehicle's identification number and learned that it had been reported stolen out of Topeka in December of last year. It's believed the vehicle's owner, 53-year-old Doyle Grimes of Meriden, brought the vehicle to the property.
Deputies also checked numerous other vehicles found on the property, and discovered a Dodge Ram pickup truck that had also been reported stolen out of Topeka in early October.
Laurie says that no local charges are being filed at this time, but the case is still under investigation. The Atchison County Sheriff's Department will be assisting the Topeka Police Department in their investigation as well.
