(KAIR)--The Benedictine College campus will be tobacco-free, starting in July 2015.
According to the school's newspaper, the ban covers all tobacco products, including e-cigarettes, and chewing tobacco.
The decision to go tobacco-free comes after two years of research, board meetings, and student opinion surveys. Benedictine President Stephen Minnis says that school offcials took their time on the matter because they “Did not want to rush into anything that would cause questions or concerns from students”.
Minnis adds that this is nothing new, and that the school is actually catching up to what other schools around the country are already doing.
An October 27th e mail sent to students informs them that next semester will be a transition period for tobacco users. Use of tobacco products will be limited to three designated areas on campus.
The school will also pay for Atchison Hospital’s smoking cessation course for any interested students.
