(KAIR)--A Valley Falls man involved in a single vehicle wreck in Atchison County Saturday morning was arrested after he fled the scene.
Atchison County Sheriff Jack Laurie says 25-year-old Eric Pennington was westbound on K116 Highway near Hamilton Road when the vehicle left the roadway on the south side of the highway. Pennington then maneuvered the vehicle back onto the road, but overcorrected, causing the vehicle to skid off the roadway again toward the south and crash through a nearby fence.
Laurie says a witness to the wreck reported it just after 4:00, but when deputies arrived, they found that Pennington had left the scene. He was located a short time later, stuck on a muddy road, not far from where the wreck took place. Upon further investigation, deputies found what appeared to be drug paraphernalia in his vehicle.
Pennington was booked into the Atchison County Jail on charges including driving under the influence second offense, leaving the scene of an accident, and possession of drug paraphernalia. He is being held on a $5,500 bond.
