(KNZA)--The Leavenworth County community of Easton has been awarded nearly $1.2 million in funding through USDA Rural Development for upgrades to the city’s water system.
The funds will be used to drill one new well, construct a new treatment plant, and install 12 fire hydrants and 41 water meters.
The funding will come in the form of a $660,000 grant and $508,000 loan
USDA Rural Development State Director Patty Clerk announced Friday the agency is providing nearly $50 million in loans and grants to upgrade rural water and wastewater systems in Kansas.
Since 2009, USDA Rural Development has invested nearly $11 billion in new and improved water and wastewater infrastructure nationwide that has benefited nearly 14 million rural residents and more than 5 million households and businesses.
