(KAIR)--A Meriden man was injured Thursday afternoon in what authorities are identifying as a machete attack.
Atchison County Sheriff Jack Laurie says deputies were called to the Effingham EMS building just before 4:30 after it was reported that someone had been struck by a machete. According to Laurie, 46-year-old Joseph Thomas had driven himself to the building, but would not tell officials exactly how he had been injured. However, deputies were able to determine where the incident took place, and went to the location soon after speaking with Thomas.
Laurie says deputies spoke with the occupants of the residence located at 4771 K-116 highway, and were able to piece together enough information to identify a possible suspect in the attack.
The name of the suspect is not being released as the investigation continues.
Thomas was transported by helicopter to the University of Kansas Hospital, in Kansas City, Kansas, for treatment of his injuries.
