Atchison Economy Improving

(KAIR)--The economic outlook for the city of Atchison is on the upswing.

That word from City Community Development Director Stephanie Leif who adds that the improvements can be at least partially attributed to the city's improved unemployment rate. She says there was a point early last year when the city's unemployment rate was the highest in the state at ten percent. However, that rate has dropped to 5.2 percent, which Leif says is pretty comparable to several other communities in the state.

Leif says there are a variety of different factors that can contribute to a city's improved unemployment rate such as unemployed people leaving the city, though they do not want to see that happen, and students returning to school who may have been unemployed during the summer months.

Leif adds that the addition of Inclusion Technologies LLC, a producer of ingredients for various food products to the city's economy, has also contributed to the increase.
