(KMZA)--Three teens, connected to an escape from juvenile detention, in Topeka, and the theft of a vehicle in Centralia, now await the filing of formal charges in connection with their alleged criminal activity. “All three of these juveniles were taken into custody and are in the hands of juvenile detention pending charges from the County Attorney,” Nemaha County Sheriff Rich Vernon tells MSC News. “They'll be held in juvenile detention for the crimes of vehicle theft, burglary, and fleeing and eluding from officers.”
Vernon identifies the teens as 16-year-old Colby Boehm, of Seneca, 17-year-old Keith Hawkins, of Walton, Kansas, and 17-year-old Justin Hendrick, of Topeka.
Hendrick was apprehended in Kansas City Monday afternoon while Boehm turned himself into the Nemaha County Sheriff's Office that evening.
Hawkins was taken into custody Saturday morning when he surrendered to authorities after the teens allegedly tried to flee from deputies while traveling in the stolen Centralia pick-up truck, but wrecked it a mile after the pursuit began.
That happened in the area of the intersection of 80th and T Road, in Nemaha County, where authorities also recovered a car that had been stolen earlier from a Topeka residence.
