(KAIR)--The Atchison County Sheriff's Office, in a collaboration with the United States Marshall Service's Offender Investigations Branch, recently conducted a three day operation to ensure registration compliance of convicted sex offenders in the county.
During the operation, more than 41 compliance investigations were conducted, with only one registered offender found to be non-compliant. That case is currently being reviewed for violations.
Sheriff Jack Laurie says he is satisfied with the results, as one offender violation out of forty one is not bad. He would like to see 100 percent compliance, but it has obviously made a difference as many of the offenders are contacting the Sheriff's office to make sure they are in compliance.
Other agencies assisting in the operation included the United States Probation Office and the Kansas Department of Corrections. The United States Marshals funded the operation by purchasing investigative equipment and reimbursement for the man hours spent on the investigation.
