(KAIR)--Dozens of fishermen will gather at the Atchison Riverfront this weekend for the third annual Kansas City Catfish Midwest Open Championship, presented by the Atchison Area Chamber of Commerce.
The event is set to start early, with boats scheduled to launch Sunday morning at 7:00, and will end with a fish weighing at 4:00.
Project Coordinator for the Chamber, Mary Jane Sowers says there is one aspect of the event that should appeal to everyone, even if they are not actively participating. Each fish caught during the competition will be released back into the river after being weighed, but bigger fish will be put on display in a large tank for participants to enjoy before being released.
Sowers adds that the winner of the event will be awarded $2,000.
The Atchison Elks Lodge will also be holding a fish fry during the competition, starting at 11:00 until they run out of fish. Fried fish, sides, and a drink will all be served.
