Hearing Delayed in Holton Child Abuse Case

(KNZA)--The preliminary hearing for a Topeka teen charged in a Holton child abuse case has been postponed.

Jackson County Attorney Shawna Miller says the hearing for 18-year-old Koylen Corbin McKinney, which had been set for Wednesday in a Jackson County courtroom, was continued to September 25th due to scheduling conflicts.

McKinney is charged with felony counts of aggravated battery, abuse of a child and aggravated endangerment of a child.

He was arrested April 18th after a medical call to a Holton apartment complex where a 7-month-old boy was reported to have difficulty breathing and was unresponsive. The boy was airlifted to a Kansas City area hospital, and has since been released. Miller says the boy suffered numerous complications from the incident, including serious brain damage.

McKinney, who was 17 at the time of his arrest, waived his juvenile status during a hearing earlier this month.

He remains in the Jackson County Jail.
