Pawnee City Council Receives Budget Proposal

(KLZA)-- The Pawnee City Council will conduct the annual budget hearing on September 8th.

Monday night Julie Bauman, CPA, presented the budget and levy proposals to the Council for fiscal year 2014-15. The proposed property tax levy is 47.48-cents per $100 of assessed valuation. That levy is project to bring in $102,300 in property tax dollars to support what was described as a tight budget.

City Clerk Tammy Stephens said the Council did include an assisted living project in the budget proposal of approximately $2.2-million dollars which inflates the city budget to $4,700,623. The $2.2-million would come into the budget and go right back out. The City would have no ownership in the facility. The project may, or may not be constructed this year.

The valuation of property in the city limits of Pawnee City increased approximately $200,000 to $21,542,988.

Pawnee City Council members also received an update on a proposal from Wells Fargo in which the company had proposed giving the city a house at 1104, 7th Street. City Attorney Joe Stehlik recommended the City not get involved since a couple of non-profit organizations were interested in the house. It was later learned the Pawnee City Community Foundation would take over the house and sign it over to the Pawnee City Development Organization.

Several Housing Rehab Project draw downs were also approved by the Council during the meeting.
