(KNZA)--It's official: Cindy Hoverson is no longer an employee of the Doniphan County Library District 1, based in Troy.
That comes as Hoverson, well known as “Miss Cindy” due to her popular children's reading program, submits a letter of resignation to the Library Board of Trustees.
Board President Dan Glynn tells MSC News he received the letter, postmarked August 22nd, on Monday.
Controversy erupted following a special meeting of the board held on July 29th. It was during that session that Hoverson was placed on suspension for matters not made public, with the board citing personnel matters as the reason for their silence.
A public outcry followed, with library patrons demanding both answers and the reinstatement of their favorite youth services librarian.
For her part, Hoverson, posting on a Facebook page set up by her numerous supporters, acknowledged mistakes and later cited disagreements between her and the library director as the reason for the board's decision.
Glynn, in an email, tells MSC News that Hoverson's decision to resign, received in a letter drafted by the library board's attorney, means she will receive severance pay equal to three months' salary, ten days of paid time off, and releases any and all claims against the library or the board of trustees.
If Hoverson had not resigned, she would have been terminated with no severance.
He says the board will now focus on other business of the library, including a renovation grant and hiring a full-time youth services librarian.
