Analyst Says to Top Off Propane Tanks Now
(KTNC)--While many people have their air conditioners running during the heat of early August, one expert suggests looking ahead to winter and home heating needs.
Fuels analyst Harold Hommes says a very rapid rise in liquid propane prices last winter left many people facing tough financial decisions and he suggests people top off their propane tanks now to avoid a situation like January when L-P prices peaked above five dollars a gallon.
Prices now range from about $1.40 to $1.70 a gallon, but Hommes says they’ll likely start inching upward in the weeks ahead. About 90-percent of the Midwest’s inventory of propane is stored in underground caverns near Conway, Kansas.
In Nebraska, about eight-percent of homes are heated with propane, mostly in rural areas.
