(KAIR)--The city of Atchison took the final step in their yearly budget process when they held a public hearing for next year's budget during their meeting Monday afternoon.
The meeting drew no comment from the public, and City Manager Trey Cocking presented the final 2015 proposed budget to Commissioners for consideration, but not before informing them of one final change concerning how neighborhood revitalization would be calculated. He says that in the past, it was calculated at the county level, where they just gave the city what their mill levy is subtracting out the neighborhood revitalization. But now, the city has a higher mill levy amount, but has to show negative revenue for the mill levy, so they are just accounting for the neighborhood revitalization on their books.
The Commission voted 4-0 to adopt the budget. Commissioner Jack Bower was not present at the meeting.
Cocking says the budget will now be officially submitted to the Atchison County Clerk no later than August 25th.
