New Holton Wal-Mart Remains On Track

(KNZA)--Despite rumors circulating to the contrary, the Wal-Mart Corporation remains on track to construct a Supercenter in the Jackson County community of Holton.

The 70,000 square foot store will replace the city's current Wal-Mart, and is planned to be built on the southern edge of Holton.

Wal-Mart spokeswoman Delia Garcia says the company is continuing to work with both the City of Holton and the Kansas Department of Transportation to finalize plans for the Supercenter. She says that includes the alignment of the store's south side entrance with Banner Road.

A timeline for the start of construction is not yet available, but Garica says the project is moving forward.

Apparently, the long-running, ongoing discussion between the parties is the reason for the false rumor that the project had been shut-down.

City officials earlier this year gave approval to the full-service Supercenter, which will replace Holton's aging Wal-Mart which began operating in 1981.
