(KLZA)-- Pawnee County has become the 27th county in the state of Nebraska to be designated as " Livestock Friendly".
Nebraska state officials--including Governor Dave Heineman--came to the Pawnee County Fair last week to present a plaque to Pawnee County Commissioners.
The Governor praised Pawnee County and touted the states high ranking in various livestock and agriculture categories. Just this year Nebraska became the country’s number one cattle feeding state.
In addition, Nebraska ranks third in corn production, first in popcorn production and fifth in the nation in soybean production currently.
Pawnee County will receive road signs bearing the program logo to display along highways.
To apply for a livestock friendly county designation, the county board must hold a public hearing and pass a resolution to apply. A completed application is then submitted to the Department of Agriculture for review.
