(KAIR)--The city of Atchison has finalized the purchase of about eighty acres of land near the Shannon Industrial Park.
The land, which is currently in agriculture use, is located approximately five miles west of the city limits in unincorporated Atchison County along U.S. Highway 73. The property was acquired from the Atchison Area Economic Development Corporation, who purchased it from the Shirley A. Armstrong Trust.
Atchison Community Development Director Stefanie Leif says that the city plans to use the land for industrial economic development by expanding the industrial park. She adds there are a lot of great businesses at the park that are currently on small lots that would be interested in expanding into a larger lot. So the new land would allow the city to market to these companies.
Leif says that the city will continue to work to complete infrastructure improvements to the property, and will work hand in hand with future economic development prospects on whatever development needs they may have.
