(KTNC)--The Humboldt-Table Rock-Steinauer Board of Education has formally approved a bid for an addition to the north side of the High School Building in Humboldt.
The board unanimously approved AHRS Construction’s bid of just over $5 million on Monday. AHRS submitted the low bid for the project. Superintendent Clint Kimbrough says construction on the long-anticipated addition will start soon.
The addition will include a fitness center and weight room, classrooms, a new music room, and a wrestling practice room.
District patrons at the meeting asked questions about the impact the project would have on the district’s levy and about plans for the future use of the district building in Table Rock and space in the Humboldt building that will be freed up when the addition is completed. Kimbrough says those decisions will be made in the future.
On a related move, the HTRS Board approved the second phase of a multi-phase project with Prime Communications. In phase one, Kimbrough says the company pulled lines in the Humboldt building in preparation for the construction project. The project will result in a new phone and security system at the school in Humboldt.
In other action, the HTRS Board approved a contract with Midwest Custom Coatings of Nebraska City to patch a couple of leaks that have been discovered in the roof of the Humboldt building.
