(KAIR)--Each year, the Atchison community honors those who best carry on the spirit of Amelia Earhart with the Amelia Earhart Pioneering Achievement Award.
Michelle Stauffer, founder of the Kansas Aircraft Corporation is this year's recipient.
Stauffer says that she fell in love with aviation at an early age, and has been involved with it in some way or another for most of her life. She made history at age 41 by becoming the first U.S. woman to pilot the Russian SU-27 front line tactical fighter, flying at 40,000 feet and breaking the sound barrier.
Stauffer will be honored during the Pioneering Achievement Award Luncheon held at Benedictine College Saturday afternoon at 12:30. Tickets for the event are $15.
