BLUE SPRINGS, Neb. (AP) - The Gage County Board is mulling a special-use permit that would allow a chicken operation east of Blue Springs in southeast Nebraska.
Beatrice radio station KWBE reports that the board held a public hearing on the proposed poultry operation Wednesday after the county planning commission recently recommended approval of the plan. The board will take formation action on the permit in two weeks.
The project would include six buildings, each 45-by-510 feet, housing 26,000 chickens per building at full capacity.
Forty-six nearby property owners have been notified of the plan. The nearest home is more than half a mile from the proposed operation.
An animal waste management plan for the operation has already been submitted to the Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality.
