Kansas Highway Patrol
(KAIR)--Numerous motorists hit the road for the Fourth of July weekend, and for the most part, most drove safely. That's according to a report issued by the Kansas Highway Patrol on Tuesday.
The Patrol worked on one fatal wreck, occurring in Montgomery County Sunday night, and officials have determined that alcohol did not play a part in the crash.
In total, the Patrol made 27 DUI related arrests, which is down from the 37 made during the holiday last year.
Troopers also issued 969 speeding citations, down from the 1,407 they issued last year, and adult seat belt citations improved drastically from last year. Only 231 were issued, compared to the 525 that were issued in 2013.
The Patrol also assisted 1,294 motorists on Kansas roadways during the four day holiday weekend.
