(KLZA)--A 57-year-old Pawnee City woman pleads guilty to two misdemeanor charges related to a fatal collision with a horse-drawn buggy last summer.
According to Pawnee County Attorney Jennifer Stehlik Ladman, Vivian Cockrell entered the pleas in Pawnee County District Court Monday.
She was then convicted of motor vehicle homicide and violation of a learner’s permit.
A sentencing date is not yet set due to a decision of the Judge, who, during the hearing, indicated he had previously voiced his opinion regarding the case. Because of that, the Judge advised counsel that he would find a different Judge to oversee the sentencing hearing.
According to the prosecution, Cockrell, while driving with a learner’s permit in July of last year, struck a buggy carrying 21-year-old Fannie Yoder and her 17-year-old brother, Reuben Yoder. He died as a result of the crash while she suffered critical injuries.
It happened on Nebraska 8/50 east of Pawnee City.
