(KNZA)--A public health warning has been issued for Atchison’s Warnock Lake due to high levels of toxic blue green algae.
The Kansas Department of Health and Environment said Thursday that the lake was elevated to warning status.
Warnock Lake had been placed on advisory status in late May.
KDHE says water contact is prohibited. Humans, pets and livestock shouldn’t drink the lake water. In addition, fish caught at the lake should be cleaned with clear water and only the fillet portion consumed.
The public health warning will remain in place until further notice.
