(KAIR)--A continuance has been granted in the case involving a former Atchison-based truancy officer accused of a sex crime.
According to Atchison County Attorney Jerry Kuckleman, the motion was granted in order to give attorneys representing 29-year-old Heather Robinson more time to prepare her defense.
Robinson is now scheduled to appear in an Atchison County Courtroom on July 28th for her preliminary hearing.
She is facing eleven counts of unlawful sexual relations.
Authorities say that although the alleged sexual activity with a 17-year-old student was consensual, state statute prohibits someone in Robinson's capacity to engage in such a relationship.
Robinson was employed with the Leavenworth Department of Juvenile Services, and assigned to Atchison's USD 409 as a truancy officer. According to Superintendent Susan Myers, she was placed on administrative leave by her employer on May 7th, and has not had contact with the school district or its students since that time.
Robinson was arrested on May 30th after an investigation by the Kansas Bureau of Investigation. She was released later that same day after posting a cash or surety bond of $50,000.
