(KAIR)--Olathe businessman Greg Orman has set his sights on challenging incumbent Republican United States Senator Pat Roberts in Novembers election.
Orman, who has spent most of his life in the business world, says he has always been passionate about policy and public service. It was this passion that led him to found the Common Sense Coalition, an organization that he says, works to give a voice to people who felt as though they did not have a home in either political party.
Orman says that the organization's started to look at how that message was resonating with people not only in Kansas, but across the country as well. He says that “it became real clear that Kansans did not have good choices, we were sending the worst of both parties to Washington...bitter partisans who care more about pleasing the special interests and the extremists in their parties than they do about solving problems”.
Orman says that what is needed is those who are willing to take a risk for the people they serve. “At the end of the day, true public service requires people who are willing to go out on a limb, demonstrate some courage, and ultimately vote for things that are in the best interest of America, and in the best interest of their constituents.
Orman adds that if there is one thing that the two parties can agree on, it is that the two party system has to be protected. They set rules that make it difficult for a third party to form and gain momentum.
As an independent, Orman will not participate in any primary election, but is required by Kansas law to gather 5,000 signatures of registered Kansas voters on a petition by August 4th to appear on the November 4th ballot.
