(KTNC)--The Falls City Aquatic Park will reopen Friday after it was closed for repairs on Thursday.
Workers removed a portion of the pool deck to replace a broken pipe that has been leaking water since before the pool opened for the season.
Pool manager Roger Lampe says the leak was in a broken elbow connection. They fixed the connection Thursday morning and the pool was closed for the day to allow the sealant to cure.
Lampe says the seal was holding up as of Thursday afternoon…and he says the way the pool was built, with tons of rock and tile underneath of it, prevented the water leak from causing more costly problems. All the water that leaked from the pool went into the sewer system and wasn't creating any sinkholes or washouts of rock around the leak.
Lampe says they used a camera that is normally used to televise sewer lines to locate and detect the leak. They then had to lower the pool level slightly and remove a portion of the cement deck to get to the broken connection to make the repair.
Pool staff will get the pool ready early Friday morning. Swimming lessons will be held at 9:00 a.m., the swim team will practice at 11:30, and the Falls City Aquatic Park will be open regular hours, from 1:00 to 8:00 p.m.
