(KNZA)--The 21st annual Jackson County Relay for Life will take place this weekend.
The event, a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society, will kick off Friday evening at 7 and run through 1 Saturday morning at the Jackson Heights High School track.
The event will begin with the survivors lap, in which those who have defeated cancer get to make the evening’s first trip around the track.
A fund-raising auction and kids games are to begin at 8:30.
At 10, luminaries will be lit, and the names of those being honored will be read out loud. Luminaries are available for $10 each and may also be purchased that evening. That will be followed by a “ fight back” ceremony at midnight.
A closing ceremony will be held at 12:30 Saturday morning as a way to remember the lives of those lost and to celebrate the commitment of all team members and volunteers to fight against cancer.
This year’s event is the second to involve a shorter schedule than in previous years when the Relay was an overnight event
