(KLZA)--  A Falls City woman miraculously suffered only what were  believed to be minor injuries when her car was broken in half in a collision with a semi-truck about 4:30 Tuesday afternoon.

According to Richardson County Sheriff Randy Houser, Catherine Elwonger of Falls City was eastbound on Highway 8 and apparently did not stop at the intersection with Highway 75.  Her Ford Tauras was hit by a northbound semi-truck driven by Lavon Knipplemeyer of Johnson.  Knipplemeyer was not injured. The impact occurred in the northbound lane of Highway 75.

Houser said it appears when the car broke in half Elwonger was ejected out the back and landed on the highway.  Elwonger was wearing a seat belt.

In addition to the Richardson County Sheriff’s Office, the Falls City Volunteer Ambulance Squad, Dawson Fire Department and Richardson County Emergency Management responded to the scene.

Houser complimented Emergency Management Director Brian Dixon for accessing the Nebraska Department of Roads camera at the intersection and being able to provide information to the Sheriff’s Office and Ambulance Squad while they were enroute to the scene.
