(KAIR)--Law enforcement officials are asking for the public's help in locating an Atchison County Jail inmate who escaped from custody while on a work detail.
According to Sheriff Jack Laurie, 24-year-old Joseph Clem of Atchison, was part of a four man crew detailed to assist in the set up and clean up of the annual Juneteenth celebration Saturday at LFM park. Three of the inmates returned to the jail shortly after 7:15 that evening, but Laurie says that it appeared Clem snuck off shortly before the event ended.
Clem was serving a short sentence on various misdemeanor charges, but he is now facing a charge of felony escape from custody.
Laurie says all four inmates were being supervised by Juneteenth committee members.
If anyone has any information regarding the whereabouts of Joseph Clem, please contact the Atchison County Sheriff's Department at 913-367-0216.
