(KMZA)--Two Higbee, Missouri residents are in custody following a chase that began in Pottawatomie County Wednesday afternoon and ended in Shawnee County.
Pottawatomie County Sheriff Greg Riat says the chase began around 4 o’clock after a deputy stopped a pickup on Oregon Trail Road about 3 miles west of St. Marys. During the stop, Riat says the deputy learned at least one of the two occupants had an arrest warrant out of Missouri. While the deputy was obtaining the information from the sheriff’s dispatch, the vehicle fled.
He says the pickup proceeded east on Highway 24 and eventually into the Shawnee County community of Silver Lake, where the two occupants fled on foot after the pickup drove off the end of a street at a T intersection.
The driver of the pickup, 28-year-old Ashley Gillispie, and passenger, 30-year-old Jason Gillispie, were quickly taken into custody.
Ashley Gillispie was arrested on charges of fleeing to elude, possession of illegal drugs and drug paraphernalia. Jason Gillispie was arrested for possession of illegal drugs and obstruction. In addition, both were also arrested on outstanding warrants out of Missouri. The two remain in the Pottawatomie County Jail.
Assisting in the pursuit were the St. Mary’s Police Department, Kansas Highway Patrol, Rossville Police Department and Shawnee County Sheriff’s Department.
Riat says on several occasions during the chase, stop sticks were used to deflate the tires on the fleeing pickup.
