(KMZA)--The Seneca City Council has approved a zoning change request sought by J-Six Enterprises for a building expansion project. 

On the recommendation of the city Planning Commission, the Council voted 4 to 2 Wednesday evening to approve the zoning change from commercial to industrial.  Council members Steve Bennett and Jim Mitchell voted against the zoning change.

During the public comment portion of the meeting, several residential neighbor’s again voiced their concerns about noise, dust and truck traffic related to the company’s corn milling facility, which is located on property between 6th and 8th Streets on both sides of Union Pacific Railroad tracks.

City Attorney Martin Misher said once the property is rezoned to industrial, there are regulations in place that would allow the city more ability to regulate the output of noise and dust.

A company official told the Council last month they are taking measures to address neighbors’ concerns.

J-Six plans a two-phase building project.  The addition would house a second extruder along with packaging and warehouse areas.

In other business, the Council heard they Branch Street extension project is almost complete.  A representative of the Manhattan-based engineering firm BG Consultants told the Council the contractor is finishing up the last details and expects to be done in the next month. City Superintendent Brian Ruske said the street can be opened to the public to drive on anytime.

Also the Council decided to sell the property located on 11th Street where the old tennis courts are located.  The city will accept bids from the public.
