Nebraska State Patrol Special Seat Belt Enforcement Scheduled
Headquarters Troop-Lincoln will begin a two-month long, special enforcement effort designed to help reduce serious injury and fatality crashes through the enforcement of crash causing violations, with an emphasis on seat belt usage.
The special enforcement, which will begin on Monday, June 2 and continue through Thursday, July 31, will concentrate on Gage, Otoe, Saline and Saunders counties.
“Statewide, the observed seat belt usage rate is 79%,” said Captain Lance Rogers, Commander HQ Troop-Lincoln. “Motorists in Gage, Otoe, Saline and Saunders counties are below the statewide average for seat belt usage. They can expect to see extra troopers on the road during the enforcement period as we work to gain voluntary compliance with all traffic safety laws.”
According to statistics from the Nebraska Office of Highway Safety (NOHS), Gage County has a seat belt compliance rate of 67%, Otoe County 57%, Saline County 54% and Saunders County 71%. An $8,250 grant from NOHS will help to fund the special enforcement effort.
Captain Rogers said, “Help us save lives. Buckle-up every trip, every time.”
