New Way to Pay Child Support in Nebraska
(KTNC) - Nebraskans who pay child support using cash, money orders or a cashier's check can now make payments electronically. Troy Reiners, the director of the Nebraska Child Support Payment Center, says the state is teaming with PayNearMe, an electronic cash transaction network. He says the move will make things much easier for everyone involved.
Reiners says those who pay by cash can log on to the state child support website where there is a link to PayNearMe. By clicking on that link, Nebraskans will get a barcode.
Payments can be made at any of PayNearMe's 17,000 participating locations nationwide - including 7-Eleven, Family Dollar and ACE Cash Express.
Reiners says all people have to do is go to the cashier, who will scan the barcode and will then ask how much they want to pay. After giving the cashier the money, the transaction will be complete and the Child Support Payment Center will be notified.
Reiners says more than 52,000 non-custodial parents make payments each month. In March, 501 cash payments, 2,326 money orders and 79 cashier's checks were processed. Nebraska is the first state to use this option for child support payments.
