Pawnee City Employees to Get New Health Insurance Plan

(KTNC) - Pawnee City will pay less for health insurance under a plan the City Council approved Tuesday night.
The council approved a recommendation from Mayor Duane Westing to go with the Co-Opportunity Health Premium Platinum Plan beginning July 1. The plan’s premiums will be 21-percent less than the city’s current insurance plan through Blue Cross-Blue Shield, a savings of approximately $15,000.
The plan also includes lower deductibles for city employees, but does include co-pays for doctor visits.
The council approved, on 3-1 votes, motions to contract with Julie Bauman to do the city audit and help prepare the city budget for the next three years.
The cost for the auditing service is $14,505 for 2014, $14,955 for 2015, and $15,405 for 2016.
The cost for help with the budget is $2,000 for 2015, increasing $50 per year through 2017.
Councilman John Dahlgren voted against the action. He felt the city should put the contract out for bids, but other council members said they were happy with the services Bauman has provided to the city in the past.
In other business, the council approved a recommendation to approve three housing rehab project contracts. The contracts are all for $24,995. Two are with E-Z Construction and one is for Hendrickson Construction.
Pawnee City is still accepting applications for housing rehab projects for this year.
And a large crowd turned out for the first day of the swimming season at the Pawnee City Pool on Sunday. The small red slide that was at the pool is still being repaired and will be repainted. Pawnee City is accepting applications for substitute lifeguards for the summer.
