(KNZA)--A location has been finalized for a new summer lunch program planned in Hiawatha for local youth.
Angie Gilpin with Hiawatha ACES appeared before the City Commission Monday evening to request use of the Fisher Center for the program being held in conjunction with the St. Joseph-based Second Harvest Community Food Bank.
Gilpin says they plan to provide lunches Monday through Friday from 10:30 to 1:15 from June 2nd-July 25th, with the exception of July 4th.
She said they are currently expecting to feed 30 to 40 kids per day.
The commission gave their approval to the use of the Fisher Center.
In addition to the lunches, Gilpin says snacks will be served on Tuesdays from 3:30 to 4:30 in the afternoon and Thursdays from 10:30 to 11:30 in the morning at the Morrill Public Library.
In other business, the commission approved an amendment to the city’s municipal code allowing three goats and three sheep per acre on properties zoned agricultural.
City Administrator Mike Nichols said he was contacted by an individual interested in purchasing about nine acres in the city currently zoned agricultural. Nichols said the individual raises dairy goats and wanted to know if it was allowed.
Currently, there is a limit on the number of horses and cattle allowed on property zoned agricultural, but no limit on the number of goats and sheep allowed.
