(KMZA)--The Nemaha County Commission is looking into the possible creation of a countywide neighborhood revitalization plan.
The commission on Monday spoke via phone with Rural Development Association of Northeast Kansas Director Nancy Gafford to ask if she would advise them on the creation of a plan that would offer a property tax rebate for a certain period of time for new construction or rehabilitation of property in the county.
Gafford said she would look at neighboring county’s plans and also check with the League of Kansas Municipalities for more information.
In other business, Wetmore City Clerk Mike Clowe met with the commission to ask if city residents could take the debris from the demolition of unsafe structures to the C & D pit at the county landfill at no charge. Commissioners agreed to allow Wetmore residents to dispose of the debris for a maximum cost of $100 per structure, which is the same arrangement the county has with the city of Sabetha.
Connie Winkler, an employee in the Nemaha County Treasurer’s office, came before the commission to present her written resignation, effective June 30th.
And the commission gave Sheriff Rich Vernon permission to advertise for a relief dispatcher
