(KNZA)--A single-vehicle crash on U.S. 36 Highway Sunday afternoon about 5 miles east of St. Joseph sent a Faucett, Missouri man to the hospital.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol says 20-year-old Michael Hughes was westbound at the third fork of the Platte River when he lost control of his car and traveled off the left side of the highway, striking a bridge rail. The car returned to the roadway and traveled off the left side a second time, striking the bridge rail again. The vehicle then returned to the highway, crossed the center line and traveled off the right side, striking the bridge rail a third time.
Hughes, who was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, was transported to Heartland Regional Medical Center in St. Joseph with moderate injuries.
The wreck was reported around 12:30 Sunday afternoon.
