(KNZA)--A former Sabetha man convicted of sexual exploitation of a child and conspiracy to commit aggravated escape from custody has been sentenced to 18 months in prison.
49-year-old Christopher Sperling was sentenced Thursday in Nemaha County District Court.
After serving the prison sentence, Sperling will be placed on 36 months supervised probation.
He pleaded no contest to the charges earlier this month. In exchange for the plea, another felony charge—trafficking contraband into a correctional facility—was dismissed.
Sperling will be required to register for life as a sex offender.
He was arrested in January of last year on the sexual exploitation charge following an investigation by the Sabetha Police Department.
The additional charges were filed after a number of shanks were found during a jail inspection in June.
