(KLZA) -- 15 counties in Southeast Nebraska will participate in a winter weather-mass casualty incident exercise Wednesday.
The Southeast Nebraska Healthcare Coalition is sponsoring the event, focusing on decision-making, coordination and integration with other organizations during a bus accident. The purpose of the exercise is to evaluate current response concepts, plans and capabilities related to a mass casualty event during a winter weather storm in Southeast Nebraska.
The exercise is designed to help guide the participants to actively think about how they would react to a severe winter weather storm hitting their community. The exercise will simulate a sport utility vehicle striking a bus filled with school children. Anxious parents quickly overrun the local medical facilities and the storm causes power outages and road closures throughout the community.
Among the agencies participating will be Community Medical Center in Falls City, Pawnee County Memorial Hospital, Richardson County Emergency Management, Nemaha County Emergency Management, Johnson / Pawnee county Emergency Management Agency, Johnson County Hospital, Nebraska City Fire and Rescue, St. Mary’s Community Hospital in Nebraska City, Southeast District Health Department and Syracuse Rescue.
