(KAIR)--Atchison County residents who dump their trash in the rollover container located at the Atchison County Lake will have to take it elsewhere.
The Atchison County Commission decided not to renew the contract with Martin's Trash Service, who owns the container, during their meeting Tuesday afternoon. Commission Chair Jeff Schuele says the decision to remove the container came after it was discovered that people living outside of Atchison County were dumping trash in it. With something that is free, to have out of county dumping trash there was not a good use of tax dollars.
Removal of the dumping site was not the only lake policy that was changed. Schuele says other policies the Commission added include banning hunting or trapping on the lake facility, though fishing is, of course, still allowed with a valid fishing license. There will also be restrictions on trash dumping at the site.
Schuele adds that an adequate number of trash cans have been provided to take care of any trash needs at the lake.
In other business, the Commission appointed Henry Scherer and Steve Caplinger to fill the two at large spots on the Solid Waste Committee.
