(KAIR)--Bids have been received for the remodel of the Atchison County EMS building, but budget issues have stalled the process.
A representative from the architecture firm working on the project came before County Commissioners during their meeting Wednesday afternoon to discuss the bids, and told Commissioners that costs had gone about $100,000 over his initial estimate.
Commissioner Mike Bodenhausen says the entire project was looked over to see if anything could be eliminated to save costs, but because the remodel is taking place within the city codes, there are several regulations that have to be followed because of these codes, and this has added the additional cost.
Bodenhausen adds the Commission has explored the option of building from scratch instead of continuing with the remodel. They have looked at similar projects done by other counties, but it was determined that the remodel would be the most cost effective solution for Atchison County.
No official decision has been made at this time, but Bodenhausen expects action to be taken in the next two weeks.
