Smoking Ban Passes in St. Joseph
04/08/2014

(KNZA)--St. Joseph voters on Tuesday approved an indoor smoking ban at nearly all public places in the city.

KQTV reports the proposal was approved by a 818 vote margin, with 53 percent of voters supporting the proposal compared to 47 percent against it.

The approval means beginning June 7th  bars and restaurants in St. Joseph will have to ban smoking indoors.  There are a few exemptions--including the St. Jo Frontier Casino gambling floor.

A citizens group called Smoke-Free St. Joseph gathered nearly 22-hundred signatures to push for the ban, which the City Council voted to place on the ballot in January.
