NEK-CAP Receives Grant
04/08/2014

(KNZA)-- NEK-CAP, Inc. has been awarded a $4,500 grant through the Kansas Community Gardens Project, a joint initiative of the Kansas Health Foundation and K-State Research and Extension.

NEK-CAP  is one of 26 community garden projects in the state to receive the funding, which will help support the Community Foundation of Northeast Kansas and the Brown County Healthy Foods Coalition Community Garden Network.

Jeanette Collier with NEK-CAP says they're really excited to have the opportunity to give the community access to space to grow and nurture a garden for healthy foods.  She says it’s an opportunity for NEK-CAP participants, staff and other community members to share in a growing experience. The garden is located at NEK-CAP's Central Office, south of Hiawatha, at 1260 220th street.

The Kansas Community Gardens Project is a three-year initiative, with this year's recipients representing the third and final group of gardens selected.  During the first two years of grants, 59 gardens were selected.

Public events will be announced at a later date.  If you are interested in a plot, you can contact Don Nigus at commfoundofneks@gmail.com.
